Welcome to Tamriel Rebuilt !

Tamriel Rebuilt is a modding project that adds Morrowind's mainland to The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for you to explore. We follow Bethesda Softworks' original lore and creative vision so that you never lose the sense of a coherent game world.

To date, about half of the mainland is playable, with additional in-progress work available for preview. Seek out exciting new adventures in the Telvanni east, the Indoril heartland, and the contentious Aanthirin region. Download Tamriel Rebuilt here

Our team of artists, modders, and writers is passionate about expanding Morrowind into a whole province, complete with diverse new landscapes, cities, stories, and hidden secrets. Though the project is over two decades old, work continues with people like you joining periodically. You can help us reach our goal by becoming a developer today, no experience required.

Also check out Project Tamriel, our sister project. Through shared assets and lore, we are coordinating the (re)building of much more than Morrowind alone.

Tamriel Rebuilt is pleased to announce the release of build 18.07 "Old Ebonheart"!

A long time in the making, we are proud to unveil our first major content release since Sacred East. Old Ebonheart is the very heart of Imperial power in Morrowind, a slice of civilized Cyrodiil in the alien east. But even within its fortified walls, danger and intrigue lurks and many an unwary traveller have lost their money and their influence here... or worse.

The newly released area

What's New
The eponymous settlement of Old Ebonheart is, of course, the main new attraction of this release. With it at the forefront, we moved our finalized landmass further west to the river Thirr, the largest river in Morrowind. The new settlements of the Aanthirin ("around-the-Thirr") region, namely Dondril, Felms Ithul, and Vhul, are also made available, with local dialogue, a new (non-player) guild, and several miscellaneous quests. Though the Aanthirin, part of House Indoril's heartlands, and Old Ebonheart are essentially next to each other, they are worlds apart.

If You Don't Know about It, It's Easy to Overlook

This will probably turn more into a ramble than a blog. This is in answer to criticisms of why Tamriel Rebuilt has chosen to ignore most of ESO's lore, and an explanation to why some folks still vehemently dislike ESO, from my personal point of view. (Other devs of TR may have different reasons and I do not write this to represent the whole...yadda yadda...)

Spring Release News: Whoops

As spring nears its end, it's painfully obvious that Tamriel Rebuilt's Spring Release has slipped once again and will not release in spring after all.

A lesson has been learned: Tamriel Rebuilt works badly with deadlines. While the March (then Spring) deadline allowed focused development, meeting the deadline itself proved to be unachievable time and again.
There is good news, however: the next version will be released and it will be released very soon, within a few weeks.

The problem with the Spring Release continues to be quests: they have been submitted, tested, edited, and then tested again.

However, as Old Ebonheart is a political hub with all of the Imperial factions represented, this created a unique problem of many, interlacing quests over a relatively small spread of characters. Some, like the Burgrave of the Ebon Tower, are used in half a dozen quests, leading to even more development and testing time.

What's more: with the coming of spring came exams, graduations, and family- and work-related issues. With focused development during their "free" time, this work has burned several people out. In the end, driving ourselves into an early grave is not something that we are very keen on, so Tamriel Rebuilt had to linger in development just a little bit longer.

Nevertheless, we are very nearly ready for release. The current (as of 20th June) list of quests and status makes this very clear:

In comparison, these are the quests currently part of TR_Mainland:

Virtually everything else has already been finished to a satisfying degree. With merely a few more weeks of testing and development time, the unmerged quests and questlines will have been tested and processed and Tamriel Rebuilt's quest count will increase by no less than a quarter.

A bitter lesson was relearned, but however long this will end up taking, it will be way worse in Almalexia.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

ESO Lore Overhaul: Stonefalls, Part Two (and a Half)

Why the funny name to this? I posted Part Two without putting much content into it, as work was calling. This finishes out that post, covering the content of Fort Arand and the nearby Emberflint Mine.

For the reasons and rules for this series, see my first blog:

ESO Lore Overhaul: Stonefalls, Part Two

Well, after playing only frm Davon's Watch to Senie in Part One and finding a lore issue in almost every quest, I'm a little leery about jumping back into this, but here I am again! Let's play some ESO! This post covers the quests from Othrenis to Ash Mountain. (I may edit this to include more of the zone at a later date, but my real work calls me.)

Morrowind's Future Part I: A Census of Morrowind's Political Factions

Atrayonis suggested he and I write out our respective (and probably starkly divergent) ideas on the future of Morrowind after the events of TES: III (including TR events of course). I've decided to make a start at that, but will divide my write-up into at least two if not more parts, this being the first.

ESO Lore Overhaul: Stonefalls, Part One

Back and at it again! For an explanation of what this is and the rules I have set myself in tackling ESO lore, please see this first (well, second) posting: https://tamriel-rebuilt.org/content/eso-lore-overhaul-character-creation...

This time I am moving into looking at the storylines and aesthetics of the Stonefalls zone, an Ebonheart Pact zone dedicated to Dunmer. Part One covers quests and other various nitpicks from Davon's Watch to Senie.

ESO Lore Overhaul: Character Creation Edition - TAKE TWO

So, first with an apology. An error with the website database ate my old post. I'm afraid this one will not be nearly as entertaining and a bit shorter. EDIT: A kind contributor managed to get my original post back! Spoilered here for now because I am lazy...though I think you may be more entertained by the writing in the original, I've updated my thoughts a little on the Dragonknight class, so I will keep the second version of this post as the "main" one to prevent further confusion.

E-e--e-excuse me, we are editing vanilla dialogue

First the good news: our Spring Release is progressing at a steady pace.

Pretty pictures mean things are going to be alright.

We also want to announce that Tamriel Rebuilt is going to include a fix for a common dialogue bug, by editing a line of vanilla dialogue.

Picture this: your Nerevarine newly vanquished Dagoth Ur, descends from Red Mountain, and goes to turn in some other quest. He approaches a fairly high-level NPC, talks to them to grab the quest reward, but then...

Ow! My immersion!

What you have encountered is one of the most annoying bugs in Morrowind.

As the "E-e-e-excuse me" reply is straight on top of two replies filtered to the Commoner class (which it also overwrites) and expresses the right sentiment, it seems that these were originally intended to be filtered to the Pauper class. By filtering it correctly, the poorest folk of Tamriel will continue to fawningly stammer over you like the hero you are, while everybody else can move on with their lives and insult your clothing or tell you about the local quest hooks.

This fix is adopted in coordination with the province mods, Province:Cyrodiil and Skyrim:Home of the Nords, as well as Patch for Purists.
Who else does anything with these lines?
Aside from the big province mods, this line is mainly edited by bug-fixing patches.
The Morrowind Patch Project (only 1.6.6. was tested) adds the same filter, but also strangely relocates these replies at the very bottom.
The Patch for Purists currently implements a different fix, but its creator Half11 is going to change this to the same filter the province mods will use.

In short: for most players very little will change. For those with an unpatched game (not advisable), an older patch or a different Nerevarine greeting fix, suddenly old replies will reappear. For modders interested in the technical details and reasons behind this change, please read on.
